Safety, safety and safety! Those are the top 3 things to look out for when you see a baby cribs for sale sign any where. Your baby's portable crib should be a safe haven. Your child can spend up to his third year using a crib. A good crib then, you will appreciate is a place where you can keep your baby safe while you get busy at work or ease it up with a restful sleep.
Over the years, the revision in Government manufacturing standards has greatly improved crib safety. As a direct result of such regulation, most new cribs sold in the United States, for instance, are very safe. In spite of this, baby crib furniture continues to be associated with the highest child injury rates of any nursery item. It is estimated that 50 infants each year are killed and another 9,000 are injured in crib-related accidents in the United States alone.
Travel Crib
When shopping for a baby crib, you are wise to make price subordinate to finding the safest baby cribs. Only after finding several safe cribs to choose from should aesthetic features be considered. Whether you are a parent or care giver, make safety the top priority when searching out a portable baby crib.
So what Portable Crib is on your mind? Does It Measure Up?
The Consumer Product Safety Commission sets standards for infant beds in the USA. Before you purchase a crib, you want to be sure it measures up to the following safety standards outlined by the U.S. Consumer Safety Commission:
•Many parents and caretakers know that an infant's head is relatively larger than the rest of his body and could become stuck between bars that are too far apart if his body slips through. If a crib has vertical bars or slats, they must be no further apart than two and three-eighth inches or 60 mm, to prevent infants from slipping through or getting stuck between them.
•Any openings on a crib's end walls must not exceed two and three-eighth inches, because they might also allow an infant's body to slip through.
•If any of the bars on a crib's side is broken off, the gap created between the remaining bars is dangerous to an infant inside. Be sure the crib you buy is known to be sturdy before you sit your child in it.
•Injury may as well occur if an infant crawls or climbs over the crib's side. Be sure the top of the crib you buy has its sides not less than 9 inches at its lowest position and 26 inches if risible.
Having bought portable cribs myself and researched a good number of them, my pick of the safest baby crib is the Baby Bjorn portable crib.
